After several months of preparations and fundraising Nukanti´s participants from the Playing for Freedom program finally had the chance to take part in the national graduation event of the Capoeira Nativos group in Colombia. Following the batizado especially organized for our children and youth in their own community of Ciudad Bolívar, some of them could travel to Villavicencio, three hours away from Bogotá, and spend two unforgettable days with other capoeiristas from all over the country. They could take part in various classes with masters from Brazil, several rodas and a tournament, as well as the graduation ceremony, or batizado.

Thanks to Nukanti´s supporters a total 13 young people from Ciudad Bolívar, a shantytown on the outskirts of Bogotá, represented Playing for Freedom and their community at the event in Villavicencio. There were six participants who received new cords during the graduation ceremony - one got Level 1, three were awarded Level 3 and two achieved Level 4. This is in addition to the 21 children and youth who had graduated in Ciudad Bolívar the week before.

We are also proud to announce that some of our participants won four medals in the national tournament of the Capoeira Nativos group. Playing for Freedom got 1st and 2nd place in the Children category, as well as 2nd place in Beginners and 2nd place in Confirmed Students.

Thus the 2015 Batizado was an unforgettable experience for everybody, both those who traveled to the national event and those who took part in the event in Ciudad Bolívar. This would not have been possible without the support of our donors, so a big Thank You to everyone who helped make this dream come true! In the new year Nukanti will be looking to expand the program to other vulnerable communities in Bogotá and other cities in Colombia so we hope we can rely on your support in the future as well.
